I have to admit that I have a pet peeve about parents that do not dress their babies in appropriate baby clothing, especially baby shoes! I understand that not all parents can afford to buy their babies matching shoes for every outfit, but please put shoes on your babies, even if they can not walk yet! Their little toes need protection and warmth.
Now that I have that off my chest, let’s talk about baby clothing in more details. Many new parents can become excited when shopping for their new baby. It is important that when visiting the baby store, that you are practical with your choices. This also holds true for buying baby clothes as gifts.
If the baby you are shopping for is due to be born in June, consider weather and seasons when making your choices. In other words, do not buy the baby a winter coat or sweater as a new born, but go ahead and buy a 6-9 month size that can be used later on. Baby clothing is something that all new parents will need, so buying a newborn clothing in various sizes for the 1st year of their life is common and appreciated. Onesies are probably one of the most common types of baby clothing, so feel free to load up on those. They are as much of a necessity as diapers in the 1st year.
A little tip that no one told me when my son was born was that you may also want to buy your new baby some “preemie-sized” outfits for the first couple of weeks of your baby’s life. My son was not a preemie, he was born on time and weighed a healthy 7 lbs 11 oz, however, the 0-3 month baby clothes that I brought to the hospital were huge on him. He did not grow into the 0-3 month size baby clothes until about 2 weeks after he was born.
Baby clothing is a fun way to express the joy you feel in being a new parent. Showing off your new baby is fun and rewarding, so having a wardrobe for your new addition that expresses your personality or the personality that your friends have through their gifts is always a fun way to introduce your baby to the world. My sister bought my son a few onesies that had fun sayings on them like “Ladies Man” and “Mommies Alarm Clock” as an expression of her excitement for her new nephew. My husband bought him a Bears t-shirt rivaled by my mom and dad’s gift of a Bucs Jersey for our little guy.
Baby clothing is a necessity, but it is also very personal way to welcome your new baby to the world. Don’t forget the shoes!
